Hi, my name is Lauryn and I am from a small town in South Jersey called Burlington Township. The reason I decided to pursue a career as a pastry chef because all though out my childhood I have been around kitchens and cooking. My brother and I used to stay with my grandmother when my parents were at work when I was young and I would always find myself in the kitchen with her, helping her cook or just watching her cook in general. Eventually when I got older, I began to help with a few things, stirring the pancake batter or gathering ingredients from her pantry and cabinets. Soon enough, cooking was all I ever really talked about. As I got older, I began to make cakes and experiment with decorating and I instantly fell in love with the art of cake decorating and less and less with the art of classic culinary cooking. During my years in high school, my uncle opened a barbecue smokehouse restaurant and I worked there as the server, cashier, and the prep cook. Depending on the day, I worked in a different part of the house and I learned my way around a professional kitchen. I guess you can say that my family is my inspiration. Currently I am student at Johnson and Wales University and I’m majoring in Baking and Pastry. I am getting my AS and my BS in Baking and Pastry. I would like one day to open my own bakery that makes great pastries and cupcakes and cakes as well as doing really good decorating of cakes.
